Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game

As promised yesterday, here are a few pictures from the football game Friday night at the Georgia Dome when the  Tennessee Vols played NC State Wolfpack.  Of course there are a lot of photos of the Pride of the Southland Band as well.  I'll be back soon with a new layout...I promise!

Labor Day Weekend

Happy Labor Day!
Where in the world did the month of August go?  Starting back to work (I work in a school) has really hurt my blog.  Anyway, this weekend was great!  We went down to Atlanta to watch the Vols play NC State in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome.  First, I have some pictures to share that I took at the Pep Rally on Friday afternoon.

The stage.

The beautiful and talented majorettes arrive at the Pep Rally.

The real Smokey.

This Smokey was the Devil Mascot at my daughter's high school.
How cool is that?

The Big and Mighty Vols!

Well that's it for the Pep Rally.  I will be back tomorrow with pictures from the game.  Well maybe the pictures will be more from Pre-game and Halftime...we'll see!

Spring Break!

I took a break from my daughter's twirling albums and did a beach page. I used the new Echo Park collection called Everyday Eclectic and used one of my favorite photos I took of my DD and her boyfriend.  I've had two very stressful days at work and it has been a relief to come home, turn on the Olympics and work on this page.  I have another beach layout in mind for the end of the week.

Dog Gone Cute

I finished another layout today while watching the Olympics.  This layout is of one of the UT Majorette camp days when the line dressed as dalmations for cartoon day.  I haven't had a dog in a long time so I'm not sure why I had these bone paper clips. But they are very cute, and they were in the right colors of orange and black.  The dog, bone and title letters all came from the Sihouette store.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far and Go USA!

I love Echo Park

The mailman just delivered the new Echo Park Everyday Eclectic Collection today.  So in honor of this great day, I've got a fun layout using Echo Park paper.  The bride's engagement and later wedding had a Cindrella like theme to it.  The EP Tiny Princess paper reminded me of the cake at the shower (so pretty!).  I thought the doily paper from EP's Melody of Life Mini collection looked like a shower.  It's so hard to believe these girls are old enough to be getting married!

Back to Work!

After being off for summer break, I had to go back to work today.  I always wish I had just one more week.  Oh well...  Over the weekend I worked on layouts for some CHA challenges.  One had to do with Fall Projects and the other was Christmas in July.  I got more twirling layouts completed which makes me very excited.  Along with the layouts, I have posted a couple of videos to go along with the events.  Hope you enjoy!

The UT Majorettes dressed up like Wizard of Oz characters for Friday band practice.  The next day was Halloween and Gameday.

The majorettes dressed as skeltons for the halftime Thriller performance on Halloween night. This was back when they could twirl fire on the field.  It started to downpour rain just as they marched on the field and it didn't let up.  They wore dance shoes instead of Cougars and the field was very slick, but I think they did a great job.  Megan has always said this was her favorite game.  The Vols played South Carolina and Coach Lane Kiffin let the football players run through the "T" in black jerseys!  Megan said it was the loudest she has ever heard Neyland Stadium.  She said it sounded like several jet planes taking off at the same time.  What a great memory! If you watch the video remember it's pouring down rain so please be patient at first. Halloween Halftime Thriller

And now for a little Christmas...

This was halftime of the UT vs Kentucky game on 11/27/2010.  The Pride put on their 12 days of a Volunteer Christmas program.  Alot of twirling in this one and I don't know how they did it in those Santa hats and fur.  Enjoy!  12 Days of a Vols Xmas

I'll be back soon,
Laura

Time Flies

I finished 2 more layouts for Megan's twirling albums.  I like taking a current photo and adding an older photo on the layout.  I feel like I'm getting more photos scrapped and into albums.  I also like to look at the difference in 10 years of time.  The top layout is of Megan and Jessica. They have been twirling friends, duet partners and even competitors through the years.  I always felt like Jessica made Megan a better twirler and vice versa.  They are still great twirlers, but when they were younger they were amazing.  There is a picture of them in costumes at a competition in Memphis in 2002 and then another one almost 10 years later as UT Majorettes.  The University of Tennessee Majorette Camp is held every summer and the current UT Majorettes teach twirlers from all over the United States.  The second lavout is of Megan's first day of camp as a UT Majorette in 2009.  Megan took baton lessons from Kathy McCarrell Smith as many girls have over the years.  One of her former students presented Kathy with a t-shirt quilt and a photo album.  It has twirling t-shirts that Kathy's girls had gotten through the years.  I found a picture with Megan (age 8) with Kathy from 1999 that was taken after an event Kathy once put on for her students each year.  It was called "Majorette Day" and Megan won a big trophy for "Miss Rising Star". Megan wanted her picture taken with Kathy and her awards.  A t-shirt like the one Megan has on in the picture is in the quilt.  It is amazing how fast time flies, and that's why it's important to tell the story!

"We Back Pat"

My first scrapbook pages up on my new blog are of my daughter twirling during halftime at a University of Tennessee basketball game. The game was right before Christmas last year. Do you know how how hard it is to do a Christmas page about twirling and basketball with lots of orange? It is a challenge!

The gym floor at Thompson-Boling Arena is named the "Summitt" after former head coach Pat Summitt.  I'm so glad she has had  the opportunity to perform on the "Summitt" from time to time. Last week, Coach Summitt was awarded the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the 2012 Espys for her fight with Alzheimer's.  It is going to be so strange not seeing Coach Summitt on the sidelines when basketball season is here.  Whether you are a fan or not of basketball and/or Tennessee, you have to appreciate this woman's courage and accomplishments.   I have linked the video from the Espy awards. The ESPN video is narrated by Reese Witherspoon and is one of the best pieces I have ever seen. It isn't all about basketball.  There are some sweet things about her son Tyler in the video. My daughter and him are the same age. In fact, Tyler was born on Megan's due date in September 1990.  Thanks for looking!

Oh Happy Day!

Last night my wonderful husband gave me my early birthday present (my birthday is Sunday). It is a Canon Rebel T3i.

I am so excited!!! Since 2006 I have had a Canon Rebel and it has gone alot places with me.  It has taken thousands of cheerleading and twirling pictures.  It never failed me one time, but this new one has alot more megapixels and can take video. I have played with it a little and I love it. I'm sure I will be sharing lots of pictures on this blog soon.  I can't wait for football season.  Only 48 days until It's Football Time in Tennessee!

Under an orange colored sky...

"I'm going to quit my job and start a blog!"  I heard this recently on a commercial. While I can't quit my job, I can and did start a blog today!
